Gillaroo |
Haul out and relaunch. We discovered a few leaks after launch from some of the thru-hulls. We managed to fix them all by drying out in the local sandy bay and completing the fibreglass work and refitting between the tides. But then we found another one at the tip of the keel which had been caused during the first crane lift when all her weight had come down on this one point. We tried three times to dry out and repair between the tides but to no avail - glues don’t work well in the wet ! So we now had a leak, we couldn’t lift out with the crane without removing the mast, and the nearest hoist that could take a 23‘ wide cat was in wales on the other side of the Irish sea. We sailed her over to Dago’s on the other side of Strangford Lough to see if he could work out a solution. |

The damaged keel. |

Gillaroo is dried out on tyres and one end lifted at a time to enable the lorry to be reversed in under the bridgedeck. But when we attempted to drive off the weight on the rear end of the lorry pushed the keels down onto the ground and we were stuck. |
Dago gets out his angle grinder to cut off the upright on the lorry so we can mount Gillaroo further forward. |
Off up the ramp with a tow from a tractor to help and a little extra ballast on the starboard hull. |

Our home for the next 2 weeks while the repaurs were being done and steel shoes for the keels made up. |
