Tuomotos - Ahe and Rangiroa

The Tuomotos are a range of atolls between the Marquesas and the Society Islands (Tahiti). Each a ring of low lying islands and most of them had a gap in the reef which we could pass through to the inside (which could be 20 miles across).

Our best catch to date, a 12lbs Wahoo. We had lost our gaff in the Marquesas (while landing a big Dorado the handle had come off) so I had to grab this one by the tail to get it aboard.

Some great diving in the passes and the best snorkling we have ever had - beautiful coral, swarms of friendly fish and quite a few sharks.

Ahe is famous for it’s pearl farms. Left they are extracting black pearls and replacing them with ‘mother of pearl’ cores so the oysters will grow more.
Right - me picking out a few to buy. Nearly got in to trouble when we were boarded and searched by customs in Rangiroa and I was over the personal limit.
